Voice dictation company Nuance today announced a collection of new software upgrades, including Dragon Professional Individual (version 15), Dragon Legal Individual (version 15), and Dragon Professional Individual for Mac (version 6). As with all versions of Nuance's software, the new updates are said to feature 'powerful dictation, transcription and customization capabilities' to allow users helpful and responsive dictation features with an emphasis on workflow.
The Dragon software lets its users precisely dictate reports, spreadsheets, emails, and other documentation using only their voice. Specifically on the new Mac release, the software has had its accuracy boosted up to 24 percent over previous iterations of Dragon. Helpful tips will get new users 'up to speed quickly,' while further educating existing Dragon fans into the complexities of Nuance's product. “This latest suite of professional productivity solutions brings with it some of the most advanced capabilities to drive documentation productivity – with higher accuracy, speed and efficiency,” said Peter Mahoney, senior vice president and general manager of Dragon. “Combined with Dragon’s optimization for portable touchscreen PC’s and the ability to sync with Dragon Anywhere, professionals are able to keep up with documentation demands from just about anywhere their business takes them.”In the new update, Nuance has introduced a 'Batch Mode' to allow users to transcribe multiple audio files at once, as well as introducing full text control to empower 'users to work even more quickly and accurately by voice.' Using Apple's accessibility API, Dragon Professional Individual for Mac supports Apple Pages, Apple Keynote, Apple Numbers, Microsoft Outlook 2016, Scrivener, and other document creation programs. The release on the Mac -- as well as Dragon on the PC -- uses Nuance's new 'Deep Learning Technology' to learn each of its users' voice patterns and accents. This allows Dragon to recognize and adapt to the environment, be it in a quiet office or outside, which is a possibility thanks to the company's Dragon Anywhere mobile app that launched late last year. Over time, this speech data is accrued to improve Dragon's voice dictation features and result in a more naturalistic readout of transcribed speech. The English version of Dragon Professional Individual for Mac will go on sale for $300 on September 1 (digital) and September 14 (retail) in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. Nuance is also holding a special upgrade pricing scheme, selling Dragon for $150 for users who own registered versions of Dragon Dictate for Mac, versions 4 and higher. Those interested in the other Dragon software bundles can find out more about Dragon Professional Individual for PC and Dragon Legal Individual on Nuance's official website.
Nuance Updates Dragon Dictation for Mac With 24% Accuracy Boost, New Batch Mode Tuesday August 16, 2016 7:21 AM PDT by Mitchel Broussard. Jan 21, 2019 In October 2018, Nuance announced that it has discontinued Dragon Professional Individual for Mac and will support it for only 90 days from activation in the US or 180 days in the rest of the world. The continuous speech-to-text software was widely considered to be the gold standard for speech recognition, and Nuance continues to develop and sell the Windows versions of Dragon Home.
Learn about new features and changes in Dragon Professional Individual for Mac 6, the Nuance speech recognition software for Apple computers running Mac OS X 10.11 Yosemite, 10.12 Sierra, or 10.13 High Sierra. We’ll also briefly compare Dragon Pro Individual 6 with Dragon for Mac 5. I have tried every incarnation of Mac speech to text software, starting with iListen before it was acquired by Nuance and working my way through DragonDictate and the renamed Dragon Professional Individual for Mac. Every version has ultimately disappointed. When Nuance took over the basic speech recognition engine became the same superb one as used on Dragon Naturally Speaking for Windows.

Yes, we are all here to help and we are all users. In fact, Apple Support Communities is primarily a user-to-user technical support resource in which Apple participates only in a very limited manner. As a quadriplegic scientist and expert user of speech recognition software for 20 years, here's why I think the original post from usernamesaretheworst1 highlights an important issue that will have serious ramifications for users like myself while the reply from Kappy is not helpful.
First, the reply is condescending ('we are not mind-readers nor clairvoyants' is rude). It also uses only personal experience but does not add substantive information to the discussion and worse, is misleading. Rather than extend the original, helpful post (“Nuance is no longer supporting Dragon for Mac”) or provide useful information about the topic at hand, it includes a rude comment, instructions that are not all too relevant here, and a link to a 'User Tip' for writing a question (this is not an Apple document, but it was written by JohnGalt another user who also did not write a question—ironic). Awesome, thanks for the advice.

Some users may incorrectly assume Kappy (Level 10 - 306,974 points, an experienced user who should be able to help solve your problem) represents an expert opinion on Dragon. Some might also believe an upgrade to Mojave is a reasonable idea. This would be a mistake. Perhaps Kappy has had good luck, but this is not evidence, just anecdote. This is unscientific and unhelpful. So, here's my User Tip based on facts and extended conversations with Nuance, including management:
DRAGON MAC USERS NEEDING RELIABLE SPEECH RECOGNITION SHOULD NOT UPGRADE TO MOJAVE. DRAGON IS NOT SUPPORTED ON MOJAVE. IT WILL NOT BE SUPPORTED IN THE FUTURE. NEW VERSIONS WILL NOT BE RELEASED TO MAKE IT COMPATIBLE.
As stated in the linked announcement below, Nuance has officially discontinued product development and will no longer provide updates for this software. Nuance evaluated its product portfolio and decided to discontinue Dragon for Mac: https://www.nuance.com/dragon/support/professional-individual-for-mac-eol.html?P ID=3640511&cjevent=4e7028aee6a711e8832c0…
This announcement was a surprise to many experts who sell Dragon AND accessibility specialists who provide support to people with disabilities who use Dragon, an assistive technology. Indeed, Nuance is still listing the software for sale and they're still selling it on Amazon. If you buy it, you should know that they will not updating the software any further and will not provide you support on Mojave.
Nuance Dragon Dictate For Mac Version 4
Now, here is my personal anecdote from someone who relies on Dragon to use a Mac: The product does not work well for dictation or control in Mojave. It is even worse than it was with High Sierra, which was already problematic. It is terrible. As stated in the original post here, it crashes regularly. It’s less accurate. Furthermore, Nuance suggests not using Dragon on Mojave, as there are known stability issues. Call them. Nuance will not help you beyond recommending you downgrade your operating system to High Sierra. It's not fun to do that. I have spoken to management at Nuance and they actually recommended I switch to the Windows platform, and they will refund my purchase of the Mac version (last Spring) and supply me with an equivalent version – Dragon 15 for Windows at no charge.
Hope that helps. People come to this Apple website to get more information that will help them. This should be a simple straightforward process that doesn't require bullying or an instruction manual about 'writing an effective question.' I don’t have any specific questions, just information to help.
